Meralco Meter Relocation & Ownership Transfer: What You Need

Meralco Meter Relocation & Ownership Transfer: What You’ll Need

Moving your meter, or taking over a connection from a previous owner? These are two different requests with different requirements — here’s both.

Two Different Requests

People often use “transfer” loosely, but Meralco treats these as separate processes:
  • Meter relocation — physically moving where your meter or service entrance is installed, without changing who the account belongs to.
  • Transfer of ownership — the account itself changes hands, usually because a property was sold or a new tenant is taking over the connection.

Meter Relocation Requirements

When you’d request this

Remodeling that requires moving the service entrance, relocating the meter to a more accessible spot, or increasing/decreasing your connected load.

What to expect

A technical evaluation is typically required for relocation or load changes. If you’re increasing your load, an additional bill deposit may apply to reflect the higher expected consumption.

Transfer of Ownership Requirements

  • Proof of ownership or occupancy — a Transfer Certificate of Title, Deed of Sale, or Contract of Lease, depending on your situation.
  • Valid government-issued ID of the incoming account holder.
Meralco processes this by terminating the account under the outgoing customer’s name and creating a new account under the incoming customer — which means the incoming customer pays a new service/bill deposit, even though the physical connection and meter stay the same.
Requirements above are drawn from Meralco’s official Modify a Service page — bring the original documents, since business centers verify against them on-site.

How to Submit Either Request

1

Prepare your documents

Proof of ownership/occupancy and valid ID for a transfer; details of the requested change for a relocation.

2

Submit via My Meralco or a Business Center

Both channels accept these requests — online submission through My Meralco, or in person for manual processing.

3

Wait for follow-up

A Business Customer Service Engineer typically reaches out within 3 working days to proceed. Timelines vary depending on document completeness and the complexity of the request.

Just changing the name on the bill without moving anything or transferring occupancy? That’s a simpler request — see our Change of Name guide instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does relocating my meter change my account number?+
No — relocation moves the physical meter or service entrance point without changing account ownership.
2. Do I need a new bill deposit if I take over an existing connection?+
Yes — ownership transfer closes the previous account and opens a new one under your name, which requires a new service deposit.
3. What documents prove ownership for a transfer?+
A Transfer Certificate of Title or Deed of Sale for owners, or a Contract of Lease for tenants, along with a valid government-issued ID.
4. How long does a meter relocation take?+
Expect a technical evaluation first, then scheduling for the physical work — a Business Customer Engineer typically follows up within about 3 working days of your request.
5. Can I increase my electrical load without relocating the meter?+
Yes, a load increase can be requested on its own, though it may also require a technical evaluation and an adjusted bill deposit.
6. Is transfer of ownership the same as change of name?+
No — change of name updates who’s listed on an existing account without changing occupancy. Transfer of ownership closes one account and opens a new one, tied to a change in property ownership or occupancy.
7. Where do I submit a relocation or transfer request?+
Either through My Meralco online, or in person at a Meralco Business Center for manual processing.

Just updating the name on your bill?

That’s a simpler process than a full ownership transfer.
