Meralco Kuryente Load (KLOAD): The Complete Prepaid Electricity Guide
Buy electricity like mobile load — no monthly bill, no due dates, no disconnection notices. Here’s how Meralco’s prepaid service actually works.
₱100–₱1,000available reload amounts
No expiryunused load never expires
90 daysdisconnected before the account is terminated
What Kuryente Load Actually Is
Kuryente Load (KLOAD) is Meralco’s prepaid electricity service. Instead of consuming power all month and getting billed afterward, you load credit onto your account upfront — similar to buying mobile phone load — and your smart meter deducts from that balance in real time as you use electricity.
How the Meter and Monitoring Work
Real-time deduction
An intelligent meter tracks your consumption continuously and deducts from your loaded balance as you use power — no waiting for a monthly reading.
SMS alerts
You get daily updates on consumption and remaining balance by SMS, plus a low-balance warning before you run out.
No expiration
Any unused load stays on your account indefinitely — there’s no “use it or lose it” pressure.
Disconnection at zero
When your balance hits zero, the connection is automatically disconnected until you reload.
How to Reload
Choose a reload amount — ₱100, ₱200, ₱300, ₱500, or ₱1,000 — and load it up through Meralco business centers, accredited loading partners, or online, using your Service ID.
Zero balance means immediate disconnection, but it isn’t permanent — reload and service typically resumes. However, if the account stays disconnected for 90 days without a reload, Meralco terminates the account entirely and pulls the meter, which means starting over as a new application.
Is Prepaid Right for You?
1
Good fit if…
You want tighter control over spending, prefer paying as you go over a monthly lump sum, or want to avoid disconnection notices and bill deposits entirely.
2
Think twice if…
You’re prone to forgetting to reload — unlike a postpaid bill with a grace period, prepaid disconnects the moment your balance hits zero, with no notice in between.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need a new meter to switch to KLOAD?+
Yes — prepaid service requires Meralco’s intelligent prepaid meter, which replaces your existing meter as part of enrollment.
2. What happens the moment my balance hits zero?+
Your connection is automatically disconnected. You’ll typically get a low-balance SMS warning beforehand, so reload before it runs out.
3. Does unused load expire at the end of the month?+
No — KLOAD balance carries over with no expiration date.
4. How do I reload my KLOAD balance?+
At Meralco business centers, accredited loading partners, or online, using your Service ID to identify your account.
5. What happens if I don’t reload for a long time?+
If your account stays disconnected for 90 days without a reload, Meralco terminates it and removes the meter — you’d need to reapply as a new connection.
6. Is prepaid electricity more expensive per kWh than postpaid?+
The per-kWh rate structure follows the same regulated charges as postpaid billing — the difference is in payment timing and control, not necessarily the underlying rate.
7. Can I switch back to a regular postpaid meter later?+
This would need to be requested through Meralco directly, since it involves another meter change.
8. Do I still get a bill deposit refund if I switch to prepaid?+
Since prepaid works on a loaded-balance model instead of a deposit-and-bill cycle, check with Meralco on how any existing deposit is handled when converting.
